    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Working with Colleagues to perform Health, Safety and Environmental functions across operating area within Cummins Distribution business unit. This includes but is not limited too: Incident investigation, risk assessment review & adaptation, legal compliance, action plan tracking and progressing, admin tasks, coordinating continuous improvement projects.

  • Developed a wide range of new skills as well as reinforcing pre-existing skillsets. Experience has been very valuable for developing workplace skills and business function exposure.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Responsibility was given to myself for a large proportion of admin function within the role. Other responsibilities include: Data analysis and communication, minor incident investigation, site action plan coordination, representing site HSE at meetings when senior colleagues were not available. Additionally gained exposure to a wide variety of job function which includes a range of responsibility.

  • A large amount of training and support. Manager & colleague have been patient and always willing to answer questions as well as trusting with key job function.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Cummins DBU was described to me at the beginning of my placement experience as a big family. This is due to its small size but large scope of operation. It doesn't take long to learn everybody's name and job roles. All employees ranging from leadership to shop floor technicians have been welcoming and friendly with efforts made to meet myself in the first month of placement.
