Overview
My role involves helping in design and validation tasks for aftertreatment systems. This includes CAD, Coding , technical drawings , monthly reports and office admin.
Skills
Mixture of both. Developed my understanding of GD&T,CAD Design, MATLAB. I also developed new skills surrounding the corporate life including conducting professional meetings, writing professional reports and task management .
Responsibilities
It varied I was mainly given low priority tasks. However others I had full responsibilty.
Support & Guidance
I received good support through my placement from my the teams I was in. Both the design and validation team offered mentors and people to help if work was getting to stressful. However, I didn't receive much support elsewhere , for example, there was only one student networking event, HR took a while to respond to emails, and support outside of my team was low.
Culture
General corporate company atmosphere. Professional environment and hardworking people. It was light and not stressful.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement. Taking a year out of studies was very crucial in building a routine, gaining real-life experience and keeping my mind active but not stressed as it was in university.
Yes
The area does play a key role, Darlington is not a very nice city - so it is extremely important to have a support group such as placement friends, or being close to friends and family.
