Overview
We were introduced to some of the firm’s various practice areas. We also got to hear about trainee life, hearing some tips from current trainees on the application process and were also paired with a trainee buddy who is a great touch point throughout the year. There were a lot of networking opportunities with our peers and we even got a Brush and Bubbles social!

Business Insight
It was very digestible and interesting! It made me so excited for my future career.
Culture
The culture of A&O Shearman was one of the friendliest and inclusive cultures I have experienced in the city. The firm certainly lives up to their reputation. It can be quite intimidating entering a firm with such highly successful and intelligent individuals but everyone is very willing to help and easy to reach out to. It was my second time at the firm and I was able to have a conversation with a trainee I had met previously which I thought was lovely!
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. I came away with an increased knowledge of the firm and its work but I also made a lot of new friends and future colleagues. The whole application process is a lot less daunting now and my goal of working at A&O Shearman seems a lot more attainable than previously. Very motivating and exciting. The social was a nice break from learning and a great way to make new friends!
Yes
Be yourself! I think that authenticity is one of the main values at A&O Shearman and I firmly believe that you wouldn’t want to work anywhere where you can’t be yourself! Make sure that you tie your experiences and skills into a job in commercial law and try to have a good base knowledge of commercial awareness for the interview as this will help for the scenario. Finimize subscriptions and the FT was my go-to!
