Overview
The scheme included a two-day visit to the London office, in which there were numerous panels to learn about the various practice areas of the firm. There were also trainee Q&As and opportunities to learn about the culture of the firm. There was a social in the evening of the first day for all attendees.
Skills
I learned lots about the firm and what sets it apart from other major law firms. There was a mental strength and wellbeing workshop which developed our ability to be resilient and understand the importance of mental health. It also provided opportunities to improve networking skills.
Business Insight
It provided an unparalleled opportunity to learn about the inner-workings of the firm and its culture. There were opportunities to ask questions directly to employees and hear about their experiences in working for the firm.
Culture
The culture at A&O Shearman appears to be very inclusive and supportive. A wide range of employees enthusiastically gave up their time to give an insight into their careers and experiences, which demonstrated the friendly culture of the firm. There were also dedicated talks on pro-bono work and diversity and inclusion, as they were shown to be important to the firm.
