The Role
I really enjoyed my time at Walker Morris, everyone in my department was really friendly and helpful throughout the whole week. I got settled properly and into the swing of things half way through the week so it was sad to come to the end so soon!
I got on really well with my supervisor and the rest of the team in my department. I was given actual work to do and felt valued by everyone I worked/completed work for.
I never felt like I couldn't ask a question, even if I thought it was a stupid one. Having a trainee buddy was also really helpful, just knowing you have someone there to ask questions when you get stuck on anything.
I was never sat doing nothing, whether it was drafting letters, drafting notice forms or doing some research, there was always something to be done but I never felt like I was given too much.
I was left to do my own thing when assigned tasks. I didn't feel like I had to be babysat at all. Being given the responsbility to draft letters to clients and to the Court was really exciting.
I think the week I have had at Walker Morris will assist me so much in my further studies. I have gathered skills from this week and have developed some I already had which I think will give me great confidence going into my studies in September.
The Company
I had a laugh with my supervisor and everything I was assigned to do I found interesting.
I think the placement was really well organised, including the socials with the trainees. I never felt lost and it was really helpful having a timetable you could refer to throughout the week.
We took part in several inductions and work shops including a mock employent tribunal which was really interesting and helped us to develop skills in presenting our position and cross-examining the opposition.
I really enjoyed my time at Walker Morris and think it would be a great firm to build my legal career!
The Culture
There was a great social feel within the firm, we had a social night organised by the trainees which involved a pool tournament which was great fun!
I managed to find a place to stay free of charge with a friend so I had no problems at all!
The Leeds nightlife is brilliant, I'm in this city regularly visiting friends and its got pretty much everything you need!
After speaking to many of the trainees there seems to be a lot going on outside of work including a netball team, girls football and many more. They seem to have a great work life balance at this firm!
