Overview
Design components using 3D & 2D CAD systems to meet technical requirements in context with a focus on low-cost, design for manufacture & assembly Co-ordinate and run basic FEA & 1D modelling/analysis on those designs (vibration, crash, thermal loading, mechanical shock, EMC – Electromagnetic capability) Document design essentials across a wide range of commodities/components Develop an understanding of fundamental battery design, product development cycle & designing in context Proactively identifying potential failure modes via engineering toolsets (such as DFMEA’s, DVP&R’s, 8D & Fault-tree analysis) and looking at how these can be mitigated through optimal design Co-ordinate and specify component testing, system level validation and partake in prototype builds

Responsibilities
I have been given lots of responsibly for the design of certain components and assemblies and working towards the resolution of problems that occur and helping to validate them
Support & Guidance
i have been very well supported throughout my placement, if i want training or education on a certain topic it is very easy to speak to people that will help you or get training through Cummins. My direct line manager and my direct team are extremely helpful in guiding and helping me professionally develop my work related skills
Culture
It is a hard working, fast paced environment to develop new batter packs but one that inspires you to work efficiently and to a high quality. everyone is very friendly and always willing to help
Your Impressions
I am 75% of the way through my placement and i have had a great time so far I have learnt far more than I ever could at university. It a very rewarding opportunity to get a head start in developing my professional skills and experience for when i leave university.
Yes
It is a great company to work for that cares about developing you professionally but you have to work hard!
