Skills
I learnt how to fit into a corporate environment and communicate effectively, efficiently and formally with both co-workers and clients. Another skill I picked up was time management. I developed skills in finance, raising PO's and coding invoices, as well as proficiency with applications such as SmartSheet, SNAP & SAP. I further enhanced my Photoshop skills after expressing to my team that I was interested and wanted to take on more creative tasks.
Responsibilities
As previously mentioned, I managed the Spanish campaign for our P1 (priority 1) title 'Migration', while my fellow intern was tasked with managing every territory of our P3 title 'Abigail'. One of the things that best improved my development was being trusted to manage these things ourselves, boosting our confidence and independence. After finishing the campaign's, we presented our work to the EVP of the department. I was tasked with hosting client screenings, meaning I was trusted to communicate with our most important clients and make sure every screening was on-time, guests checked in, NDA's signed and catering booked. If there was a certain part of the work you found interesting, you could always ask to be given more tasks to do in that area, which will always be welcomed.
Support & Guidance
The team was unimaginably supportive and took a very much "no question is a bad question" stance. You're made to feel as though you can lean on anyone for support or guidance, with no one disregarding you. My mentor was exceptional, introducing me to new people in the business at every of our fortnightly meetings, as well as helping with career progress, helpful resources, and applying for roles in the company.
Culture
There's a very strong emphasis on DEI, with ERG's (employee resource groups) such as the Women's Inclusion Network, the Black Employees Network, and many more. The company is unlike what I was expecting from a corporate environment. It's female-driven, the higher-ups are understanding and friendly, the general environment is relaxed. and comfortable. There is a large emphasis on mental health & physical health with many workshops, talks and perks like massages, manicures, gym discounts, & art therapy. One thing that stands out is the presence of prayer rooms and nursing rooms in the building, creating safe spaces for all. Each year the entire company takes in a day of volunteering for various charities, which almost all participating.
Your Impressions
The experience has been greatly enjoyable, rewarding and beneficial to both my personal and career progress. The social events, such as attending the BASE awards, a red carpet Gala charity event & Christmas party have just been a few of the amazing experiences I've had along side the working day.
