    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • - Overseeing the accounts payable department. - Processing invoices and speaking to vendors on a day to day basis. - I am involved in month end tasks and review various financial reports. - Quarter end reconciliations. - Updating the development tracker for Head of production to review. - Creating monthly cost reports for production finance to review. - Processing royalties as we receive them.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have become more independent when solving tasks and use my own judgement to resolve issues. I have learnt how to work in a professional environment and communicate better on email and in person. I had the opportunity to present some training to a wider team which has improved my confidence in the professional environment. My excel skills and general IT skills have also improved and I have been able to learn some new software too.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given a lot of responsibility as I had to look after all invoices and vendors for Universal International Studios, as well as keeping on top of royalty statements. I had to communicate with vendors daily. I had my own monthly tasks to complete as well as quarter end reconciliations which were all prepared by myself.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I received a lot of support from my manager and my team throughout the year. The early careers team were also great. I always had someone to reach out to if I had any questions about the tasks I was doing, or any general questions about the company. Everyone at the NBC Universal is always willing to help and this really helped me to learn my role and settle in quickly.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture was great and everyone was really friendly. A really fun place to work with lots of events happening throughout the year. I attended multiple career talks which was a great opportunity to learn about everyone in the company.

  • I had the best time and met some great, inspiring people. I learnt so much about the professional working environment and my finance skills have improved significantly which will help me in the future. It was great to learn about other roles in the company as well as my own.
