Overview
Me and my team have a catch-up meeting every morning where each team members share what they did, what they will do and any problems that they are facing. I have both long-term ongoing projects that I develop and maintain throughout my internship. I also have weekly or daily shorter tasks such as creating dashboards for other teams or creating workflows and user guides. With these tasks and projects, I will have regular meetings where we discuss requirements and ask additional questions along the way.
Skills
I have gained plenty of new experiences and skills. I have learnt the business process and how each department relate to each other in my company. I have also developed my communication, presentation and team working skills through meetings and projects. Moreover, my technical skills such as coding (SQL, JavaScript, DAX) or using Excel, have also improved massively. The placement year taught me both in the business and the technical side.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibilities. I was in charge of many projects and was given tasks regularly. The team would always ask whether I have enough work or too much work. It felt like I was a part of the team and was truly working in their projects. I was in charge of a crucial project where I needed to create a system that teams from all over the world use.
Support & Guidance
The team always supported me and helped me whenever I had any questions. They also always check on me whether I have any challenges or difficulties. Moreover, there are plenty of training sources available such as LinkedIn learning and many more. The team will usually explain each project thoroughly before starting the tasks.
Culture
Everyone in the company is really friendly. There are always events happening around the company and everyone is involved in those. In terms of working, the team is always open to talk and help. It is overall a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
Your Impressions
I extremely enjoyed my placement here. I believe it is a great place for me to develop my skills and meet many great people. I have gained plenty of new experiences whether it will be in terms of work, technical skills or social skills.
Yes
It is important to not be too stressed and be true to yourselves. The company is really welcoming and are always open to new suggestions. In terms of technical skills, it is required to only have the basic understanding, but the most important factor is to be willing to learn new things and adapt to new projects/working environments because there will always be opportunities to engage in many different projects during the placement year.
