The Role
I enjoyed my placement very much. The only thing that would have made it better would have been if I had been able to experience different areas of the Bank rather than staying in one department.
Everyone was very friendly and welcoming and gave positive feedback.
Regular meetings and feedback. Lots of support to ensure that I got as much as possible out of the placement.
Definitely periods when I did not have enough to do! Part of the onus was on me to ask for more work, but I could have done with more responsibilities at times.
A lot of it was up to me e.g. starting projects. I did have to train my replacement though.
It was really valuable to be around professional economists - good help for discussing projects/dissertation. Excellent Excel training as well.
The Company
People worked hard but everyone was very friendly - lots of chatting.
Excellent programme - well thought out and lots of good induction activities.
I received some very good training which the company didn't have to invest in me knowing that I was only on a year long contract.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare/Dental
I am definitely thinking of applying as a graduate.
The Culture
My department didn't go out together that often, but the Bank went to the effort of introducing placement students to each other and thereafter there was a lot of socialising between them.
London is expensive, but I was living with my parents so cannot fully comment on this.
This is not really my thing, but the other placement students seemed pleased by it!
The Bank does have various clubs and things, but nothing that really appealed to my interests.
