The Role
The internship was an enjoyable experience, I was given many opportunities throughout the year and would recommend the placement scheme to anyone.
My work was standalone, and did not require much familiarity with colleagues to be effective. I did get along well with my team, and whilst not being treated like family, I felt valued.
My managers made sure that my needs were well accomodated. I felt that relevant support and guidance were offered when I needed it and that my manager cared about my development.
It's hard to say, as my workload was fairly inconsistent. At times I would be working under tight deadlines, and would have to stay after hours. On the other hand, there were occasions were I faced a much lighter workload, it also helped that I could work from home sometimes.
I was given a large amount of responsibility during my placement. I made a direct impact on Microsoft's revenue on a global stage and felt that I was valued on the same level as a full time employee.
I have picked up a number of skills during my time here, and become more proficient with a number of tools and programs. Whilst not directly influencing my future studies, the mentality I have developed from a year here will help me approach my final year with a more organised, diligent mindset.
The Company
Microsoft takes great care to ensure that it's employees are not bored in the office. There have been a large host of events over the year, many opportunities to win prizes and enter competitions. The annual Microsoft Festival is an amazing event attended by many and there is a great atmosphere of fun in the office at times.
The work placement is well organised, I feel that i was inducted into the firm well and was given necessary/relevant training from day one.
There are a number of courses and qualifications available to Microsoft employee, either for free, or at a subsidised cost. These opportunities for personal development are great for employees wanting to become more skilled in relevant tools (e.g. Microsoft Excel).

The Culture
Great opportunities here to make friends thanks to the relaxed atmosphere.
Working in London, you will find it hard to accomodate your social life and paying bills and rent.
The nightlife in London is generally very good.
There are several volunteering opportunities at Microsoft, allowing employees to help a large range of different causes.
