Overview
My day starts with an overview of tasks which I have to complete. Then checking our social pages to see any consumer interactions and User Generated Content which could be reposted on our pages as well as community management. Getting on with my daily tasks and interacting with my wider team. Having a wider team meeting and a line manager one-to-one meeting once a week.
Skills
I have definitely strengthened my time management and prioritisation skills, this is crucial in order to be able to complete tasks to a high quality and on time. I have also strengthened communication skills in order to clearly translate my thoughts and ideas to my peers. I have learnt how social media pages are managed and how to create content which reaches the target audience by testing and learning.
Responsibilities
I have been given a lot of responsibility to manage my own tasks and projects. Such as developing a tool for the brand and approving shopper marketing assets which goes out to retailers. My opinion and ideas are also respected and taken into consideration during conversations and discussions on the brands and its performance.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance from both my line manager and the previous intern/IP. I was given a whole month handover period with the previous year's IP which allowed me to become familiar with the business and its processes. After that, my line manager is also always supportive with my learning and teaching me to do things I was struggling with.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere is very relaxed and not hierarchical which makes interacting with the wider team and your line manager very easy. People are always open to help and answer questions without any judgement. At the same time, people are passionate about they work they do and will support you and your tasks.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my placement as I think this is really worth my time. I have gained a lot of experience seeing how different functions of the business work together and how marketing is done for an FMCG. I enjoyed networking and socialising with other IPs/Interns as well as with the wider team in the business. I think I have gained a lot from this experience.
Yes
Be knowledgeable about the brands the company has and the current trends in the market. Do not be afraid to show off and show what you know. The company is always keen to hear how the younger generation are presenting themselves, what they like and what they don't like.
