The Role
My first six months ere uneventful but after a change in manager I had lots of work to keep me busy in the next 8 months and really started to enjoy my work, the low start is not common though I was just caught up in management changes
The first six months I didn't feel particularly valued however in the last 8 months colleages in my office have been able to rely on me to do things for them when they are out of the office or needme to lend a hand
my fist manager was in finance and so was very busy 3 weeks o each month, after asking for more work and shareing my concerns again along with a change in manager i was given weekly one to on meetings to make sure i was on trak and happy!
first six months were farely dull regardless of asking for mor work... once i spoke to new personal development manager things changed and i am now really busy and enjoying the pressure!
lots of responsibility, thee have been times when I've been relied on to ensure an urgent contract is signed and put into delivery before close of business as my managers wer in all day meetings
i have learned how to get noticed in a work environment and gained confidence in presenting and using different software that efore I would have found dauntng
The Company
very good, friendly people enjoyed lots of banter, people from all different background... everyone is included in events eg christmas lunches wedding celebration dinners and leaving parties etc
50/50 first half was unorganised as my hiring manager left so the next manager was unprepared for me.. but the second half had alot more structure once i really voiced that i was not gainging what I'd hoped to from my experience
people had time to sit with me and teach me.. not just my task manager but also other members of the office were willing to help
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
Above 25 days holiday
Working from home
quite appealing although you need to be prepared to be based in london if applyig for graduate schemes
The Culture
i was not on an IBM site so not many otherplacemens studnts with me but I know that lots of events are organised regularly
i did not relocate for my placement, but the company did pay my travel expenses as I had quite a long commute 3 days a week
nightlife is average although I did not go out often as live 2 hours away from the office
across the company there are lots of opportunities to ge involved however it depends on location and the company fully encourages students to be actively involved wit organiseing events/clubs etc
