Overview
Forecasting resource hours, creating timesheets for their hours and billing them monthly. Following on from this, working with the client to ensure payments are made on time. Overall, contract management from Staments of Work and Purchase Orders to loading contracts.
Skills
I have developed soft skills such as presenting with confidence and professional communication. I have also developed more technical skills such as Excel processes to do with finance. IBM has encouraged me to understand technologies such as AI and Quantum on a deeper level.
Responsibilities
I was given responsibilities from the start. As the year progressed I was given more responsibility and offered other projects to work on.
Support & Guidance
I had a task manager responsible for me day-to-day. The team I was in also made me feel very welcome and were always there when I needed to ask a question. To add to this, I also had a separate manager for wellbeing and to ensure my placement progressed smoothly.
Culture
The company is very good for early professionals as they foster a learning and personal development culture. You are given the opportunity to explore different areas within the business and to work on different projects. Everyone is very approachable, no matter where in the business they sit.
Your Impressions
My placement year has exceeded my expectations in every way. I am grateful for the opportunities I have been given and I am glad I was trusted with the responsibility. I feel like I have worked a proper job for the whole year and made an impact towards the company's business goals.
Yes
IBM do not expect you to have a technical background or any specific skills when you join. Take advantage of all the learning opportunities you are given and access to free courses. Explore the whole business, not just the area your team sits within.
