    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
  • We were introduced to the various teams that make up Fidelity International, with talks from members of the equities, fixed income and multi-asset teams. This was done both on zoom - for the first two days - and in person for the final day. We also completed team activities and presentations so that we could put our knowledge into practise.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt so much about asset management, as I do not have an economics background, which I found very fascinating and inspiring. I developed my presentation skills, and was given very informative and helpful feedback for this, as well as my general communication skills in groups. I also felt that I developed my financial literacy, and just a general understanding of the opportunities available in asset management.

    Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • It was incredibly insightful to be able to have talks from the different teams, and really understand the different opportunities available within asset management. I felt I got a good understanding of what each of the teams did, and developed preferences within that which will help me when applying for internships in the future. We also had the opportunity to network and ask questions which cleared up any remaining confusion.

    Culture

  • 4. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I found the company culture very welcoming, as all employees came across as very passionate about their jobs, and many had been at the company for the majority of their careers. It seems like a very nurturing environment in which training is offered for your professional development, and the atmosphere was one of cooperation and respect for all colleagues. It seemed a much less hierarchical structure than other companies and a more collaborate environment.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I very much enjoyed the insight, as Serena made sure it ran very smoothly and was incredibly informative and inspiring throughout. I felt it was structured in a way that we could get the most out of it, not assuming any prior knowledge and giving lots of opportunities to ask questions, should anything be unclear. I felt the networking session at the end was an amazing opportunity, and am incredibly grateful to Serena for facilitating that, and for the entire experience.

  • 7. Would you recommend Fidelity International to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Fidelity International
  • I would recommend researching the company and making sure that you are aware of how they differ to other asset managers, what their specific strengths are and what their values entail. No specific financial/economic knowledge is needed, so I would say to not be hesitant to apply if you do not to a degree in these areas, as long as you are interested and passionate about investing and want to learn you will get a lot from the experience.
