Overview
I found the overall of the insight to be pretty good. It runs smoothly and well that allowed me to get familiar with PwC within a short time. Throughout this insight program, I had the opportunity to shadow my mentor, complete an EGA on two client, and even visit the client site. This program provides me with valuable insight into the job role of an auditor, helping me to gain a deeper understanding of the profession.
Skills
During the spring insight program, I had the opportunity to develop several skills that will be invaluable for my future. One of the skills that I developed is to be cautious and meticulous in audit work. Auditors’ work is detail-oriented, they need to pay full attention to ensure the accuracy of their work, as small mistakes can lead to significant impact and therefore affect our professionalism. To add on, time management skills are essential to auditors as well. The workload is high during the peak season with a strict deadline; therefore, we need strong time management skills to ensure work can be done on time.
Business Insight
Understanding all about the business and potential roles available was an enlightening experience. This makes me understand more about PwC and the flow of their auditing process to generate the final report. The visit to the client site with a team also provide me with a broader perspective on how the team members helped, supported and assisted each other in addressing queries. Last but not least through the sharing from my mentors, I learn how PwC takes seriously in relationships between colleagues. Overall, all these knowledge was value in shaping my understanding towards PwC and audit position.
Culture
The company culture and general atmosphere are harmonious and have a pleasant working environment. The colleagues are kind and friendly. Moreover, PwC embraces diversity and inclusivity, offering a number of clubs and activities catered to individuals with different interests and religious backgrounds. To add on, as shared by my mentor, PwC organises team-building activities that allow people from different office locations to join, this highlights PwC's emphasis on the opportunities for colleagues to connect outside of work.
Your Impressions
To a large extent I did enjoy the insight. This is because the activities in this program were abundant and engaging, resulting in a highly rewarded experience for me. Also, apart from only staying in the Birmingham office site, I was given the chance to visit the client site. This provides me the first-hand understanding of the diverse approaches to auditing and how they provide services to the client. The knowledge that I gained from this field experience is invaluable.
