Overview
Supporting the business operations team
Skills
I have learnt some new skills on proprietary IBM systems and developed excel skills
Responsibilities
Yes, the teams can be surprisingly reliant on their interns so be ready to pickup the mantle during busy periods
Support & Guidance
Really depends on the people around you - the grads and my manager have been incredibly supportive but everyone has a different experience - ultimately the initiative is with you to pro-actively ask for support
Culture
General atmosphere is welcoming, approach it with energy and most interactions are amiable - like any big company it can feel difficult to connect with the wider community though unless you are lucky and stumble across like-minded peers
Your Impressions
Really enjoyed it - absolutely worthwhile experience as it is so different from being at university. You can be stuck in your bubble as nobody is directly watching you but if you come out of your comfort zone there are lots of opportunities to take advantage of particularly on the volunteering side (as part of IBM's CSR)
Yes
For application advice be authentic - if you get into IBM then it's because you are a good fit and if not, there will be other companies out there that will be a better fit for you! Bring some positivity and energy into your interviews and for written questions do some digging into the work IBM does e.g. in sustainability, or sports partnerships like Wimbledon - find something you are interested in to talk about
