    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Lots of variation dependent on which projects are being worked on. Tasks distributed/updated on Mondays with the team and then given freedom to work on and take responsibility as you want. Day to day tasks generally focus on market research for different brands using a variety of techniques.

  • Learnt a number of new skills while further developing pre-existing ones particularly regarding statistical analyses with SPSS, Minitab, JMP, R, Python and Excel.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Plenty of responsibility both over individual tasks but also the team is more than prepared to give more responsibility when asked for, in both ongoing projects and separate tasks. The whole team remained very open to giving and working with placement students as full employees and giving responsibility accordingly.

  • A full month of training before starting work properly to ensure you felt confident in your role. Very friendly and supportive environment with everyone willing to help or at least point you in the direction of help if needed.

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • A fantastic experience. Having heard friends from university appear to not enjoy their placement year so much, can safely say its been a fantastic experience and have loved every minute of it and could not recommend it enough.

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Unilever
  • Practice interview technique with your careers team at university beforehand. Otherwise be sure to submit a clear CV which highlights your existing skills and any relevant experience. You are not expected to have work experience but anything such as societies etc always helps. Also worth considering extracurriculars, nice to see who you are outside of a working environment, helping to humanise you to the recruiter.
