Overview
On a day-to-day basis, I usually create campaign for our student demographic as well as international markets. This involves a lot of HTML coding as well as creative thinking to come up with the 'perfect' copy to entice customers to try our products. I also helped stores with their point of sale allocation and created many different design assets for the company in collaboration with the in-house graphic designer.
Skills
I have learned to use Braze (a CRM platform much like Salesforce) as well as to understand HTML and use it almost daily. This has been a very interesting skill to develop as you can always reach a new level of competency with HTML. Similarly, I have chosen to work closely with the graphic designer to face new challenges in terms my passion for design. I was able to learn many more tricks with the Adobe Suite as well as benefit from his knowledge in directing my own projects.
Responsibilities
I was given as much as I'd like to take on, which was a great opportunity. Towards the beginning of my placement, I was more focused on understand the industry and the basics of HTML, but I was subsequently responsible for my own client segment as well as my own design projects which were then available either in international markets or in all UK stores (our biggest market). It was an incredible opportunity.
Support & Guidance
My mentor, line manager and overall team were amazing people to work with. My opinion was always asked for and valued, and I felt like I could always be honest and transparent. I was very grateful to have my first concrete experience of work life with a team and overall organisation which let me explore my own interests, always supporting me if I needed anything.
Culture
Nero is a very family-like business. The company culture and overall atmosphere is very warm and caring. During my placement, I always felt like Nero genuinely cared about its employees. Everyone is kind and open, genuinely a great working environment.
Your Impressions
I loved my placement. I decided to do a year long placement as I was not exactly sure which aspect of marketing I wanted to focus on, and I feel like I have had the chance to explore my own interests within the realm of Marketing, but also other department. I am leaving this placement having met amazing people and having learnt so much, not only about the industry and my career plans, but also about myself. I would entirely recommend this placement opportunity to another student looking to explore and grow.
Yes
Be yourself. The marketing team is full of life and personality, and they also want you to be you. Show them who you really are, what you actually like. Be open and transparent.
