Overview
I deal with conducting Anti-Money Laundering checks on Pro-Bono clients at the firm, and refreshing any KYC on existing clients after three years. I also create, disable and maintain insider lists at the firm by collecting the necessary information. Monitor two inboxes, one for a client and another for an internal system. This includes assigning out work and being first point of contact for all issues related.
Skills
Certainly, my general communication, corporate and soft skills have improved. I have also developed my collaboration skills. Working in a big team has frequently required me to collaborate. I have learnt a lot about project management during my time at Latham. I have been able to develop and work on long-term projects by consistently improving them as my placement went on.
Responsibilities
I was definitely given a fair amount of responsibility for my placement. As my placement progressed, more responsibility and trust was given to me to complete tasks which were more important.
Support & Guidance
I received a lot of support and guidance. I was able to take part in Career Navigator sessions which allowed me to shape my placement and ensure I was getting exactly what I wanted from the placement. I also received plenty of support during a difficult time in my placement, which led to a significant improvement through my placement.
Culture
Company culture at Latham is brilliant. Everybody is willing to stop for a chat and introduce you to new people. Many of the senior staff were also extremely willing to sit down and give guidance on your career going forward too. The general atmosphere was always good too. The firm held lots of events which everybody could get involved with also.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement thoroughly, I was able to get invaluable experience in a Law firm which would certainly help my career going forward. I was also able to have a strong insight into the working world, putting me at an advantage having worked for a year when I leave university. Aside from that, the people I met also really allowed me to enjoy my experience.
Yes
Ensure you understand what is expected of you when you apply. Do not be afraid to ask questions and get involved with anyone at the firm, everyone is willing to give a helping hand when needed.
