Overview
As a Project Development Engineer in the Asset Operations department, my role encompasses a diverse range of tasks and responsibilities. These include working on a portfolio that focuses on the Repairing and Refurbishing of assets within a substation. I was also involved in a few projects such as a design project for one of our assets in a substation that didn't function as required and another project that looked at getting rid of unwanted assets Another important aspect of my role is data collection for assets. By gathering and analyzing data on the condition of various assets, I helped contribute to to the development of the grid in the future
Skills
Throughout this learning journey, I have acquired and honed various skills: Communication Skills: Engaging with a diverse range of individuals has boosted my confidence and enabled me to ask insightful questions. Project Management Skills: By actively participating in projects, I have gained valuable insights into project procedures. Additionally, I have also learned about regulatory compliance within the context of these projects. Time Management Skills: Effectively utilizing my time has allowed me to organize my tasks efficiently and meet deadlines successfully. Teamwork Skills: Collaborating with others to find solutions has enhanced my ability to work effectively in a team. I have demonstrated my adaptability and compatibility with different team members. Overall, this learning journey has enabled me to develop and refine these essential skills, empowering me to excel in various professional settings.
Responsibilities
During this journey, I was entrusted with significant responsibilities, including: Leadership Role: I took the lead in managing a specific portfolio, which involved actively communicating with various individuals to gather updates and gain insights into the current situation. Presentations and Data Collection: I had the opportunity to create presentations, specifically focusing on collecting data related to assets in the substation. This data was then presented during meetings, contributing to informed decision-making and development SharePoint Access: I was granted access to SharePoint sites, allowing me to make changes and updates to a specific portfolio. This access provided me with the ability to contribute to the ongoing management and maintenance of the portfolio. These responsibilities allowed me to further develop my skills and contribute effectively to the tasks at hand.
Support & Guidance
I received consistent support and guidance whenever I needed it, which helped me feel reassured and encouraged to ask questions. This approach greatly enhanced my learning experience. Regarding my work, my team members were always available to provide support and guidance whenever I needed it. They explained things to me effectively, making the learning process interesting and engaging. In terms of trainings and logistics, the Early Careers team was extremely helpful in organizing our training sessions and addressing any logistical concerns we had. Overall, I never felt lost during this journey because there was always guidance available whenever I needed it.
Culture
Working at National Grid has been a wonderful experience. It is an amazing workplace where everyone collaborates as a team, united by a common goal of striving for excellence
