Overview
My main role focused on supporting transition managers with the people aspect of outsourcing contracts, acquisitions and divestitures following principles of TUPE law and IBM policies. My main role focused on the transition activities by engaging with the client, understanding their terms and conditions, following the TUPE consultation process, and working with support teams to manage the onboarding and offboarding of transferring individuals. Additionally, I had the chance to be involved with foundation communities, network with other HR and IBM professionals and run the monthly UKI social call.
Skills
I have developed my excel skills by learning different excel shortcuts such as VlookUp and Concat functions. I have also learnt how to use different HR systems such as Workday and DMS and how to communicate effectively and solve challenging problems that might arise allowing me to effectively solve the issues. Additionally, I was able to develop my confidence, tackling new tasks and interacting with colleagues across different regions and within other HR areas.
Responsibilities
I was given lots of responsibility during my placement including managing employee data, responding to employee queries, leading the onboarding of large acquisitions and supporting with project due-diligence.
Support & Guidance
I was given lots of support during my placement. My task manager was excellent and very supportive and I could always ask her and other team members for help. My foundation manager was also excellent at looking out for my general well-being and making sure I was managing my workload and performing well.
Culture
There was an inclusive environment and everyone was very welcoming and supportive during my placement. My team were very friendly and within the wider IBM community everyone was very supportive, willing to teach you more about their roles and their experiences and answer any questions you may of had.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement. It was an amazing experience and allowed me to work alongside some great individuals. I successfully completed my role and took on responsibilities outside of an intern scope and my normal day job. It was an experience I will always treasure!
