Overview
This spring week was a three day office based experience. It covered the introductory aspects of audit. On a day-to-day basis, I got to experience the company’s values first hand whilst developing my understanding on how financial statements and lead schedules were created. I worked on some example mock questions, which included thinking from an auditors point of view and completing some example financial statements.
Skills
At the end of the second day of the work experience, we were given a lead schedule on Excel to complete. This lead schedule was a more in depth and complex example compared to the rest we had done. Upon inspection, I was slightly overwhelmed at how to begin the task as it required using certain Excel skills such as creating pivot tables. I had never done this before, and felt like I had to ask more questions to understand the process. Although I did struggle a bit at the start, I was able to persevere and continue trying which led to me being able to complete the pivot table. This has made me learn that I should be more confident of my capabilities when I am given new tasks in the future, knowing I have the skills to do the task even though I may think at first I do not.
Business Insight
I enjoyed learning about the business, particularly how the everyday values of the company are integrated into everyday tasks at the office. I gained an insight into how PwC operates and how the company continues to maintain their strong client relationship. I learnt about the potential roles available through the scheduled video call meeting and also from my buddy which talked about his career progression at the company.
Culture
The company culture was inclusive, I felt very respected and most of the colleagues were happy to help and answered my questions.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the insight week to a large extent, it allowed me to learn more about the Audit field. Before this insight, I didn't know much about audit or PwC's role, this experience let me understand the importance of the company.
