Skills
Abundance if opportunities to up-skill in areas such as Generative AI, Coding and Excel. Everyone is really approachable and willing to support your development irrespective of their position and seniority within the company, which fosters a growth minded and supportive culture.
Responsibilities
More responsibility is given as you progress through the year and gain the trust of others. There are opportunities to take on additional responsibility if desired, but you may have to search outside of your role to do this. Interns are rarely given client-facing responsibility unless they personally seek it through networking, with the majority of intern roles being internal.
Support & Guidance
There is a lot of support available to all. Task and foundation managers are very supportive, and encourage you to reach out with any questions and organise regular check in / catch up meetings. Felt like there was always someone to speak to if you felt anxious, so this was definitely a perk.
Culture
Supportive culture, with everyone being approachable irrespective of seniority. However, a large emphasis is placed on networking; you won't necessarily be be given client-facing opportunities, so you'll need to find it yourself if this is something you'd like to do. This may suit some people but not others - worth baring in mind if considering this internship.
Your Impressions
Met some great people and enjoyed experiencing new things. Gained valuable experience contributing to meaningful project work, learning a great deal along the way. Both my managers were very supportive, and I enjoyed the internship.
Yes
Be open to exploring new areas (Gen AI, Coding, Excel), and do not be afraid to approach people - it's not as scary as it seems! Be mindful that your core role may not be exactly what's avertised. I applied for 'Business and Finance Placement Year', but my main role entailed little to no finance. This wasn't necessarily an issue, as I still enjoyed my role, however it's important to bare in mind.
