    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • My 12-month placement has been in the Talent Acquisition team, predominately supporting graduate and internship recruitment across Europe, Middle East & Africa. I have been involved in supporting all aspects of the recruitment process, including posting job roles, engaging with universities, screening candidates, verbal offers and contract requests. This experience has given me a well-rounded understanding of recruitment in a global organisation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Through my placement, I have gained and developed a large number of skills both personally and professionally. For example, my communication skills, oral and written, when speaking with senior members of the team and candidates on the phone. Additionally, I have improved my knowledge of Excel and learnt how to use different formulas, such as XLOOKUP and COUNTIF. Finally, personally, I feel I have developed confidence working in a corporate environment, delivering presentations, and dealing with challenging situations.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During my placement, I feel I have been given a large amount of responsibility and been a valued member of the recruitment team. From early on, I have been trusted to manage my own roles and follow standardised recruitment processes. A few examples of the responsibility I have been given in my role were representing Hilton at events and career fairs, speaking with candidates regarding interview outcomes & feedback, communicating with suppliers and completing admin tasks such as invoicing.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • My line manager and the recruitment team have provided me with support and guidance throughout my placement, I have been able to ask my manager any questions or for additional support with my work. This has allowed me to confidently work on tasks and contribute to the team and wider business. Additionally, as part of being an intern at Hilton, you will have regular check-ins with the programme lead and the other interns.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture at Hilton is amazing, there is opportunity to get involved with committees and Team Member Resource Groups. For example, I have been part of the social committee, therefore have supported the planning and preparation of office events and socials, including the annual office ball held at Hilton on Park Lane. The office atmosphere is great, there is free tea & coffee, a gym, subsidised canteen and social areas for meetings. Additionally, there are lots of opportunities to travel (both for business and leisure), I had the opportunity to attend the HR conference in Prague, where I supported with the running of the conference and had the opportunity to network with corporate and hotel team members.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement at Hilton, I have felt part of the team and contributed towards the successful hires of the next cohort of interns and graduates. The exposure I have gained as an intern is invaluable, and the opportunity to network with wider parts of the business will support me in my future career. Being part of a large cohort of interns has been great, we have organised intern city breaks and after work socials.

  • If you are thinking about applying for Hilton, do it ! The opportunities and support at Hilton is amazing. My advice for when completing the selection stages is to be your authentic self, show your passion for hospitality and your willingness to learn. Good Luck!
