Overview
Working within a product team providing data analysis and competitive analysis reports. Mainly my role had a lot of freedom to study around areas that could benefit the product- such as machine learning along with ample opportunity to learn skills in the product through shadowing and building samples along with the opportunity to pursue business and finance knowledge in the context of a software product.
Skills
Yes- massively improved my communication skills and confidence, learnt substantively about software business functionality and processes, further developed proficiency in Java, Linux and Python. But only given 3 stars as although the quality of the teaching I got was excellent, it was spread thin and a lot of the time I was left to myself with no collaborative work. Self study time is great but getting properly involved is so much more useful.
Responsibilities
In some cases yes, for instance I produced technical reports that are used by sellers and analysis that was acted on by senior team members. But again this was spread thin and a lot of the time I didn't feel I was contributing much.. although I was learning a lot.
Support & Guidance
Plenty, some of the nicest and most inspiring people I've met. Brilliant program for mentorship within the company and lots of advice around work life balance as well as good spaces for downtime within the offices like games and sports and the bar etc
Culture
Excellent, very understanding and supporting, they believe in you and want to help push you.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the people and learning as much as I could, but I struggled to enjoy the day to day as I felt my work wasn't really meaningful nor was it particularly stimulating or challenging.
