    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • As Internal Communications Undergraduate I assist the Internal Communications team with working with our internal stakeholders to create communication strategies and develop communication plans to facilitate ongoing projects and developments. Daily tasks involve meeting with stakeholders, updating our internal platforms, coordinate the team's calendar & general admin. Each week I create a weekly roundup email send to all employees highlighting the week's news, and a retail update for all retail colleagues.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to communicate in a professional manner both through email/teams and in-person through meetings and discussions. I have learnt how develop a communications plan from start to finish. I have learnt how to collaborate with stakeholders and work effectively with other teams. I have learnt how to write communications in a clear, concise manner. I have a greater understanding of the role that a HR function has in a company.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given ownership of two weekly newsletters/company updates. I was involved with key projects and had greater involvement in some of the smaller projects. At times, it felt like there were opportunities that I could have been more involved with and a greater responsibility within.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • From my direct team members I have felt supported. I feel my line manager did offer support. I received the majority of support and guidance from the junior members of the team, who have made a massive positive impact on my experience.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The general atmosphere was okay, on the whole it has been positive. I found that people are kind and friendly, and the company culture is nice.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • There has been parts of this placement that I have enjoyed a lot; the people I have met, the new experiences I've had, the development of key skills for the future. There has also been times I haven't loved the placement, but that has been down to the role not fitting my personal interests, rather than the opportunities provided.
