Overview
My main role was supporting government tender projects within the public sector, working on bids with a Total Contract Value of over $1 billion over a 5-year term. I actively participated in bid preparation, coordinating daily stand-ups, organizing bid materials and tracking responses within the bid timeframe. In addition, I supported other bid projects as part of the Public Sector Generative AI team, where I helped to review bid content using RFPs.
Skills
Time management, discipline and working under pressure are key skills I developed as I found myself working on multiple project simultaneously. I also developed presentation skills and communication skills through presenting various events within my office.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility in various projects and I felt like a valued member of the teams I was a part of. If you want further opportunities outside of your role you need to find them yourself.
Support & Guidance
A lot from a variety of sources, learnt a lot from the intern I took over. Any consultant was always happy to answer questions and show me the ropes. IBM has a variety of online courses to also support learning, which I utilized and gained a few online badges.
Culture
Culture was very supportive and welcoming. A large emphasis was placed on networking. I worked in the Warwick Office through my placement, and found the environment to be largely welcoming.
Your Impressions
I learnt so much and enjoyed meeting new people and getting involved in a variety of different tasks. I was given a sense of purpose due to my large responsibilities throughout the year. I felt it completely different to studying at university and I was forced to come out of my comfort zone.
Yes
When it comes to the application process, be as authenitc as possible. The interviewees want to see if your personality fits with IBM's culture, so be sure to show this using relevant examples. Always do your research when it comes to applying, know the company core values and recent ventures with Generative AI for example.
