    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • There's general admin relating to tests/benchmark results relating to products, specifications, complaints and .You'd attend weekly/bi/tri or monthly calls with suppliers from your category. Store visits to check the quality and presentation of your product, along with taking the opportunity to survey the market. Work closely with internal team, buyers and product developers to discuss what’s going on in your category within the retail market and anything going on with the relevant supplier. Site visits to suppliers to see product and processes.

  • You are given a line manager and you'll have weekly calls with them. But they always make themselves available. When they're not around, other people in your team will happily step in.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • This is definitely a company where wellbeing is looked after. Very flexible in whether you work at home or in office (within reason). The office is most lively during the middle of the week. Bright and welcoming.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Very much, doing this placement is genuinely the best decision I have made. The amount of contacts I am leaving with will definitely benefit me later in life, especially as everyone knows someone in the food industry. The skills and first hand experience i have gained is amazing. You don't just shadow others for the whole year in this placement, you are given great responsibility.

  • Definitely research the company beforehand (history and values). Keep up to date with what recent moves they are making in the media (e.g., fairtrade, stocking density, white eggs, product launches)
