  • - Developed my Excel skills when analysing and manipulating large data sets. - Learned new technical skills specific to the product I am working on and as a result, also developed my problem-solving skills. - Improved my organisation skills and learned how to prioritise my work when working on multiple tasks at the same time. - Developed my communication skills by working with employees from different disciplines. - Learned about the office working environment, customer interaction and how projects are carried out.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • At the beginning of my placement, after completing all the basic product training, I helped members in my team complete their tasks efficiently and therefore, this helped me to build trust with them, which resulted in being given more responsibility. I created my own documentation and technical tutorials, alongside assisting to create assets for my superiors (e.g. presentations, summary charts and documents). These were being used internally and by customers and they were published on Seismic, IBM Community, IBM Support pages and 3rd-party software communities.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Everyone is very approachable and are willing to help you with anything you might need. I have reached out and networked with several different people from various departments to understand where they stand in the company and more about their role. I have also shadowed some people and listened in to their client calls to gain a further understanding. The culture is diverse and inclusive and you interact with so many different people!

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to IBM
  • What counts is having the willingness to learn, being a quick learner and being able to adapt yourself to new situations. It's not about the skills and technical abilities that you currently have! Having the right attitude and being inspired to learn about the new technology is very important. You can learn a specific IT skill throughout the internship by researching online and completing courses.
