Overview
Some of my main daily responsibilities include supporting external teams with their enquiries on design renovation projects, providing design and styling inspiration on pipeline projects and creating design presentations for the Architecture, Design and Construction team as well as Senior Leadership. These presentations highlight the key development opportunities, openings, pipeline projects and renovation projects within the region.
Skills
I had trainee level experience using AutoCad, an industry software that users digitally create 2D drawings of new or existing spaces before they are translated into the real world. Hilton work with designing detailed spaces, so I was provided with tips and tools to develop my drawing skills. This became useful for work projects and for my return to academia.
Responsibilities
Yes, I believe that the team wanted me to be independent and take initiative, and when I approached work with a hunger to be involved and take ownership, more tasks and projects were given to me and there were more opportunities for me to work on tasks that I have an interest in.
Support & Guidance
During my first three months, I received the most support as I was transitioning from study into the working world. As I progressed into the role, there was a lot more independence expected from me and some support that I previously had, reduced. But the offering of guidance was still there when I needed it.
Culture
It felt like a workplace that is fast paced and does have high expectations, but does cares about the comfortability and wellbeing of its staff. People are friendly and building a united culture seemed important.
Your Impressions
The exposure, travel, practical experience, networking opportunities and great team that challenged me to deliver great results all made the experience very enjoyable.
Yes
Give it your best. Be open minded, eager to learn, take work on and try new things! It may be out of your comfort zone but to succeed, you have to engage in unfamiliar things. The stretching, demand and challenges will all be to your benefit and increase your capacity.
