Overview
Conducting different types of analysis in excel and producing pitch decks in order to support client and deal teams.
Skills
Developed a range of technical and professional skills. eg. Using software such as Bloomberg/Factset/Excel, accounting and financial analysis, interpersonal skills such as presenting, commercial awareness, organisation etc.
Responsibilities
There are some restrictions as to what you can and cant do on the placement eg. you are not initially cleared to work on live transactions (anything price sensitive) and interns cannot contact clients directly over email etc. per UBS policy. However, besides this you are given a lot of responsibility and can take ownership of your work particularly if you build trust in those that you are working with.
Support & Guidance
You are provided with a first year analyst as your buddy when you first start and have regular catch ups with your line manager throughout.
Culture
The culture in my team was very sociable, friendly and inclusive making it an enjoyable year.
Your Impressions
The placement is intense but I would highly recommend the opportunity to anyone looking for experience in Investment Banking. I really enjoyed the team that I was in and would say that it can have a big impact on your overall experience.
Yes
Don't leave it until the last minute, try and get a good score in the numerical reasoning etc so you are not ruled out, use an Ipad for the video interview if you have one and look into the camera. Prepare responses for the standard interview questions.
