Overview
My role was mainly assisting Product Managers through helping create internal and external marketing materials. A large part of my role was uploading material to our approval software to ensure it was compliant. I also raised purchase orders, did deliveries and sample ordering. I also was responsible for working with external agencies to help create material needed for conferences etc.
Skills
My marketing and creativity skills have massively improved since starting placement. I have greatly improved my ability to work as a team and collaborate with others whilst also being able to take the lead when required. My time management and sticking to deadlines through creating a plan has developed. Volunteering in Baxters business resource groups has improved awareness of equity and inclusion.
Responsibilities
As the placement proceeded I was given more responsibility through managing certain projects. I was also responsible for some financial aspects such as raising purchase orders and updating marketing budget trackers for various teams. I would be given briefs of what marketing material they would like to be created and then was able to set my own timelines and checklists of how this would be completed. Despite all this responsibility I never felt any pressure and was supported throughout by the product manager I was working with.
Support & Guidance
I had weekly check-ins with my manager and also the 3 other product managers I worked with. During these calls we would go over the projects I was working on at the time and if I had any issues etc. I also was given a mentor who had previously been a placement student at Baxter who supported me in my overall placement and provided guidance.
Culture
The culture was extremely welcoming and friendly. The company really promotes personal and career development through various business resource groups and assessments such as emotional intelligence and DISC. Despite being a placement student I have always felt valued as a team member and included in everything.
Your Impressions
I have absolutely loved my placement year at Baxter and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a placement scheme. I have had so many amazing experiences and the opportunity to work with a range of teams. The skills I have learnt and developed throughout this placement year will be invaluable and greatly help in my final year of university and career once graduating.
Yes
I would advice to just be yourself throughout the application process and be confident in yourself. The assessment days are just about the teams getting to know you and to see if you would be a good fit for the company, so paying an interest in the work they do and what the placement includes will help you stand out.
