Overview
I have worked closely with all business units and senior leaders across the organisation, supporting the Managing Partner for the UK and Ireland's immediate team. My day-to-day responsibilities involve producing and shaping content for high-visibility presentations, such as the UKI-wide Consulting Townhall. This includes creating engaging slides, writing scripts, and ensuring precise and reliable data and analytics. I also own and produce the Buzz, a newsletter that showcases IBMers' achievements and requires a deep understanding of the organisation's goals and strategy. Additionally, I am an event organiser for Consulting UKI. This involves planning and executing various events that encourage collaboration, boost morale, and enable the business to succeed.
Skills
In terms of existing skills, I've significantly enhanced my communication and networking abilities. As the owner of the Buzz newsletter, I've refined my writing and storytelling skills, learning to craft engaging content that resonates with a wide audience. Additionally, attending various networking events has allowed me to build relationships with senior leaders and colleagues across the organization, improving my ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others. Moreover, I've gained new technical skills, particularly in the areas of Generative AI and Quantum Computing. Through my involvement in projects and initiatives, I've had the opportunity to explore these cutting-edge technologies and develop a deeper understanding of their applications and potential.
Responsibilities
Yes, I was given a substantial amount of responsibility during my internship, which allowed me to take ownership of my work and make meaningful contributions to the team. I was entrusted with owning projects in areas that I am interested in such as HR and supporting various other projects and events, like quarterly and weekly socials. Additionally, I was given my own tasks and roles to take ownership of within my team, including presenting daily standups and sending out regular communications.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of support and guidance throughout my placement. I had two managers, one related to my job role and one focused on my experience as an intern as a whole. They both provided me without great support through always answering all my queries. In addition, I took part in a mentorship scheme which gave me guidance specific in an career area that I was interested in learning more about.
Culture
The company culture at IBM was incredibly welcoming and inclusive. From the moment I started, I felt valued and respected as an intern. Everyone I interacted with, from my team members to senior leaders, was approachable and willing to lend a helping hand or offer guidance. Through socials and initiatives diversity was welcomed, creating a sense of belonging for all. The atmosphere within my role was also fast-paced and deadline-driven, which motivated me to stay focused and driven to deliver high-quality results. Arguably, it could be competitive between other interns regarding the significance of tasks being completed and interns level of progession and opportunities.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement experience, finding it a valuable learning opportunity. I appreciated working alongside a talented and supportive team, who offered guidance and feedback. I contributed to extra projects that aligned with my interests and career goals.
