Responsibilities
Writing and sending communications on behalf of the Tech GM was a huge responsibility in itself and had to be done consistently to a high standard each time. Furthermore, the events that were designed to value the sellers and managers also placed responsibility on me as I was a key factor in ensuring the success of this enablement.
Support & Guidance
My task manager has gone above and beyond what I expected from a placement year. Their support and wisdom has been invaluable and I feel I would have had a vastly different experience without them. Futhermore, my task manager was helpful and accessible the entire year and held bi weekly meetings that allowed for me to ask questions and keep up to date with the admin aspect of a placement year.
Culture
I found that people will speak to you no matter their superiority status. There is a collaborative culture that fosters a willing and open environment. Feedback is readily available and the team spirit is evident across different areas of the business.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed my placement year at IBM. Once I discovered the year was about more than just my day-to-day role and actually more about the network I built and the opportunities I made the most of, i felt positive and open minded going into every week knowing i had the ability to make it different to the previous week.
Yes
Be yourself. Despite being a tech company IBM isn't looking to hire robots! It's a people orientated culture and the best value you can bring to whatever role you take on is yourself. Don't be afraid to speak up and share your opinion. Most importantly make the most of your network, the connections you make and the people you meet are the best part.
