Overview
Everyday is different in PR and comms, however most days I will proof press releases, go through the newspapers every morning to look out for retail news, respond to journalist enquiries and much more!
Skills
My confidence has grown massively. Professionally, I understand how a business runs and how to fit into this environment. Being a university compared to working full time is very different! I am more resilient and push myself in situations that typically I would feel uncomfortable in
Responsibilities
Yes, so much responsibility! You feel like every other colleague in the team. You aren’t looked down on as the intern in the team. I have been able to lead projects and do work that I would never have imagined I could do before my placement.
Support & Guidance
Lots of support. At the beginning, you have a long training programme which you follow to guide you into the role smoothly. During this time everyone makes sure you’re doing ok and checking up on you. Then once live in the role, managers are consistently supporting you, along with other members of the team and there if you ever need help.
Culture
The company culture is very corporate and professional. The dress code is strict and there are processes in place to keep things professional. However, I have really enjoyed this way of working and like the environment. It isn’t for everyone though.
Your Impressions
I loved every minute! I wish I could start all over again. I could not recommend the placement enough. The experience you get is incredible and I am so glad I decided to take a year out of university to complete a year in industry as it is SO beneficial!
Yes
Be confident, approachable, enthusiastic and friendly! This is exactly what the people who are interviewing you are looking for. You don’t need to know it all. As long as you’re willing to give it a go, you will be fine.
