    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • A typical day would be reviewing and negotiating non-disclosure agreements and novation agreements. Aside from this often you will support members of the team in conducting research tasks for them and sitting in on deal negotiations to get at hand experience and learning. There is an element of surprise as you cannot predict what ad hoc legal queries you may have to tackle and what tasks may be presented to you.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • This placement is really useful in developing your raw skills which you carry from university and developing and cultivating them to ensure you are able to display them in a work place environment. At university, much of the learning you will undertake is purely theory based. On placement at SAP you are able to develop this theory based learning and apply it to an actual work setting and develop your practical skills for the role you are going into.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes absolutely. A fair deal of the work conducted while on placement was reviewing and negotiating agreements which act as the first stage during the lifecycle of a deal. By negotiating these agreements you help the conversations between the companies kick start and this can make you feel that you have been given a key role within the business.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • I would say a fair amount. If I ever had a query there would always be someone in the team to help you understand and learn. Everyone is very dedicated to ensure that you develop sufficiently whilst on placement at SAP. There can be moments where everyone is so busy you have to adapt and try work around the issue yourself but this is natural in any big company.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from your line manager?
  • 4/5

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?
  • 5/5

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Very encouraging. There is a culture of collaboration at SAP with everyone encouraged to work together. It can be daunting heading into a big company that it may be quite overwhelming however SAP dedicate a considerable amount of time and resources to ensure that placement students are looked after and are able to incrementally imbed within the company.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I had a wonderful time on my placement. There are very few aspects that I would change. No day was the same and the work was extremely engaging. I always had enough work to keep me busy while always having the ability to reach out to the wider team if it ever got too much. The work would vary really nicely and it was nice to work in such a wonderful and supportive team.

  • 7. Would you recommend SAP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to SAP
  • Be yourself. That is the biggest advice that could be given. SAP do not look to find someone who presents themselves as the finished article. They can't be especially in the placement scheme (where everyone is largely still at university). They are looking for students with potential with a willingness to learn and take accountability of themselves and the work they produce.
