Skills
- Improved technical skills through various projects, including basics of simple programming languages like VBA and Powershell, BA-related skills such as effective ways of drawing process flows and gathering requirements, and strong knowledge in data analysis tools such as Power Bi - Improved soft skills such as professional communication, confidence in leading meetings and managing work load effectively
Responsibilities
Yes, for sure - the first couple of months were there for me to settle into the work environment; while I was part of larger projects, majority of the tasks given to me were rather simple or one-off. Once my manager has noticed that I've settled in, she started giving me increasingly more responsibility, including a project ownership.
Support & Guidance
Everyone was incredibly helpful and supportive. I've always felt that if I have a question or need help with something, I can always ask my team. Formal feedback every 4 months further helped me with finding the right direction of self-development. I was even encouraged to delegate work to my team, including manager, should the work load become heavy, just showcasing how much I was considered part of the team just like everyone else.
Culture
Very open and flat hierarchy. Everyone is incredibly open and supportive. And because Nomura puts so much effort into young talent acquisition, the company also has many young people, including a whole cohort of placement students and grads, that make it easy as a student to fit in. Furthermore, there are organised events, weekly drinks on a terrace and societies such as public speaking and climbing that make it easy to get to know colleagues.
Your Impressions
Absolutely loved it. Like everything in life, it had its ups and downs, but looking back I could not have imagined a better first job. I'm hoping to get the opportunity to come back to the company.
Yes
Have a positive attitude, be open and not afraid to ask questions - it feels like this is a key part of Nomura and can also help a lot in the interview process.
