Overview
I am a developer in Global Markets, working on transitioning a legacy platform to a modern Kubernetes micro services based architecture. My day starts with global team meetings to update the teams about the tasks I have completed and what i would be working on next. The rest of my day consists of coding, code review, testing and debugging, deployment. I also take part in many extracurricular activities such as singing, sports.
Skills
I have developed many important transferable skills such as communication, collaborating, networking, team work and other important skills. I have also learnt Spring Framework, DevOps, Bash, MongoDB, Rest service development, Kubernetes, Helm charts and further developed my knowledge in working with API's, Gitlab, React, Typescript, Css, SQL, PostMan.
Responsibilities
Yes. I was accountable for all the projects I was working on. I also had full responsibility in developing time sensitive python scripts for a cyber security audit.
Support & Guidance
I started off with a week long training program in finance and python with the rest of my cohort. We also had access to PluralSight to learn different languages and get familiar with API's. Furthermore, I also had an excellent support system in the form of a buddy and mentor in addition to my manager, my team and my cohort. We had regular catch-ups which helped me ease into my role.
Culture
The company culture is excellent and aligns with my values. The general atmosphere is very friendly, safe, helpful. It is easy to speak to anyone and gain insights and advice.
Your Impressions
I loved my experience at Nomura. I learned a lot, my team was excellent and my manager helped me ease into my role balancing learning as well as working on exciting new projects. I built my network by participating in various events.
