Overview
Daily tasks involves solving application issues reported by traders as well as handling incidents that involves investigating the root cause of it, implementing immediate fixes to restore service. As a production support person, we are in charge of deploying changes and releases in production environment for which we also need to raise change tickets. Collaborating with wide range of teams across the firm to address issues and discuss preventive measure for future is another essential part of the role.
Skills
I have learnt to work in UNIX/LINUX environment and Unix commands after joining my placement which is a crucial skill for production support members. Additionally, I have learnt how to make reports in Power BI and automate it which was a part of my project.
Responsibilities
I was given every possible opportunities to learn and take as much responsibilities as I can and share the workload of my team. My team were very helpful in my learning curve which helped me take on more responsibilities.
Support & Guidance
At my placement company, I got allocated with a placement buddy who is from the same team as I was in and a Mentor who is from a different team with whom I was able to discuss any issues/concerns. Both buddy, mentor and my team were a great help in my development which made me confident in my role by the end of the year.
Culture
The company culture is very friendly where I personally experienced myself that all people are very helpful and approachable.
Your Impressions
I must say I really enjoy my placement by not only doing the daily work but also enjoyed by networking with other people getting to know their insights. Apart from that there are really good clubs and societies to join like public speaking and running club which helped me personally in improving my verbal speech.

As a placement student I would advise that it is a very great place to start your career where everyone is very helpful in your growth.
