    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • During my placement I worked alongside HWS EMEA ( Hilton Worldwide sales- Europe Middle East and Africa). I worked alongside 4 different teams: GSS, Hilton Direct, Leisure Sales Team and Specialty Markets Team. Gss- Group sales support, deals with handling data, uploading opportunities onto sales force( data entry), and auditing contracts. We spent 6 weeks in this role to familiarizes ourselves with the Software salesforce as it is used in all departments. We then moved to Hilton direct who are concerned with direct sales, i.e liaising between agent and hotel in order to confirm business. With the Leisure sales team, and specialty markets I did much more Data handling, networking and projects. The specialty markets team covers a few sectors such as Sport, Entertainment and Government business.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Myself and the other intern in my team were both treated as valuable team members and not as 'Interns'. We were given many of the same Jobs/ Tasks as our team members, and were also invited to attend the same events.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • HWS is a huge team, there is always someone to support. Very comfortable working environment. Our team take a 'one team' approach, everyone is always happy to help/answer any questions you might have.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • Company culture is fantastic. You are required to take part in a few different committees, I took part in the social Committee which meant I was able to help plan and prepare social events this year. We have quarterly staff parties, with free food and drink- each with its own theme. We also had a Ball in January, and there is also an annual Team member appreciation week, in which the office organizes fun event as well as food drink and prizes each day. There is always something fun happening in the office.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • Had an absolutely amazing year. Made some lifelong friends, and was able to travel to 5 different countries this year as we get staff discount at Hilton Properties- something I never would have been able to afford to do otherwise. I have also learn lots and developed countless new skills through working with the different teams. I have actually enjoyed my placement/working for Hilton so much that I have a new job with Hilton starting this July after finishing my placement.

  • Be enthusiastic and passionate about the role you are applying for. I would recommend looking at the companies values/ethos before writing your cover letters.
