Overview
My role is to review tooling received from vendors in CAD. Each unit has to be checked that it meets JLR's design standards.
Skills
Yes, CAD skills have been developed massively. As well as ensuring time management and communication skills are up to scratch.
Responsibilities
Yes. Ensuring BIW tooling meets JLR's standards, and making improvements in CAD when necessary is my responsibility. At the start of my placement, I was given plenty of time for training. I am in contact with my lead engineer everyday to discuss any concerns.
Support & Guidance
The department I'm in has really helpful people. Support and guidance is available whenever needed. My first two weeks were mainly spent completing training. Since then, I've been contact with my lead engineer daily, and my manager about once a month but I will see him between these meetings.
Culture
There are so many departments at JLR, and the culture will vary between each of them. In my department, the atmosphere is generally positive. Everyone is encouraged to speak openly. Everyone is approachable. We have had team-building exercises.
Your Impressions
To a high extent. I've massively enjoyed improving my CAD design skills. And there have been many experiences outside my normal day-to-day workload. This includes driving experiences, site tours, and volunteering activities.
Yes
Learn the creators code and the reimagine strategy. The interviewers will be impressed if you've looked into these. Talk about relevant things done outside of uni if you can, and talk about these in the presentation/interview and attach photos if you can.
