Overview
From day to day basis I work to create new and innovative solutions to the engineering problems that arise during projects. This can involve all aspects of engineering skills including design, assembly, calibration and testing. As well as assisting other team members with there projects to accelerate workstreams for projects.
Skills
Through my work throughout the year I have not only developed all of my engineering skills improved, including CAD skills, design (for sustainability) and feasibility testing but my soft skills especially presenting through the monthly update meetings with the other interns. Additionally, gaining experience within a corporate environment has been very beneficial for my development for future career.
Responsibilities
I have been given the freedom to tackle and complete individual projects, while I have been helped with any problems I encounter during my projects, the majority of the work I have conduct during my year has been completely individual. This also means that you have the responsibility to meet the deadlines for the work, allowing you to develop the required management skills for completing many workstreams at once.
Support & Guidance
Several members of my team, Manufacturing Innovations, have supported my development across the year. People are always free to assist with any work/problems that I encounter. Additionally, the Placement team are especially helpful with regards to developing soft skills, through monthly presentations feedback is always available for areas of potential improvement.
Culture
The atmosphere on site is always positive while everyone on site is always friendly. My team is especially close knit, and everyone is always available to talk through any problems that you may have whether personal and work based.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my placement very much due to the day to day development I have observed within myself, I have surprisingly enjoyed the 9-5 routine and hope to carry it forward into my final year of university.
