Overview
Carrying out a project given at the start of the year. Supporting the Quality Assurance Department with their daily tasks including activities such as assigning training and keeping training up to date. Ensuring tasks set by the Intern Placement Team are carried out and submitted to support enrichment and personal development.
Skills
Yes - I have developed soft skills such as presenting to key stakeholders. I have also learned technical skills such as learning how to use software such as the Electronic Lab Notebook and MasterControl. Additionally I have learned new lab techniques as I have been given the opportunity to join teams separate to the team I am in.
Responsibilities
Yes - I was given my own individual project and also was trusted with tasks that would have otherwise be carried out by other members of the QA team.
Support & Guidance
I have been offered a huge amount support within this placement. I was given an extremely supportive line manager and team. There was 10 placement team members that were highlighted at the start of the year as happy to help when needed. One of these people was assigned to me and one other intern as a 'Placement team buddy'. I was also given a mentor I could ask for additional career and social advice.
Culture
The company atmosphere is exceptionally friendly. Employees are happy to share what their job role involves which as been invaluable to me as an employee starting out in the scientific industry. Teams hold social events out of work hours to further develop teamwork.
Your Impressions
I have enjoyed my internship. I feel I have been given opportunities to significantly impact my career in a positive way.
Yes
Look into the work the department you applying to and the work they carry out. Learn the values and find examples that show you hold the same ones. Look at the job description and the personality attributes on the job advert - show understanding / capability of the job advertised and that you have the correct personality traits where possible. Try to appear calm and confident when possible.
