    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed transitioning from university to a BAT's environment within the last 10 months. I have familiarised myself with the work culture and become settled in my role in order to present myself in the best possible way. I have learnt a new set of skills whether it would be developing a more confident scientific skill-set from the preparation of e-liquids in the laboratory to building and strengthening soft skills such as presentations, independently carrying out my own study and networking internally/externally. I have also become an active contributor to helping the Liquids team at BAT become the best in the tobacco industry by managing and completing my placement project as it has been a fundamental learning piece in the relevant topics of the wider e-liquids interest.

  • 7. Would you recommend BAT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BAT
  • Do not worry about the transitioning period from university lifestyle to a corporate environment as you need to allow yourself the time to adjust to the core values of BAT, the professionalism, the work ethic etc. You will have continued support throughout the placement year from the placement team, your line manager/team and your fellow interns, this is a very inclusive environment. I would suggest networking and fostering relationships outside of your team as you will get to know about different areas of the department and this will help in the long term especially if you are leading your own project, as you unexpectedly may need the help of other teams for the progression of your project.
