    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Our team ensures the processes to assemble the vehicle structure is followed correctly by working with multiple departments to ensure quality and delivery of our products in a timely and effective manner. I am responsible for coordinating work with the installation companies to mature the facility and maximise output, as well as being the owner of specific zones within the bodyshop. On top of this I am responsible for ensuring correct installation of equipment and warranty.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Project management and interpersonal skills are key skills which are developed throughout the placement. You are given a high level of autonomy to carry out your day-to-day tasks, while still keeping within the project timelines. Along with being supported by senior and experienced members of the team, you're project management and interpersonal skills can grow exponentially. A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office is developed throughout the placement, as well as how to communicate with a number of internal external stakeholders - suppliers, senior leadership, team members, other department, equipment suppliers, etc.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Due to the large amount of different tasks and responsibilities surrounding Body-in-White bodyshop installation projects, there is a high level of autonomy. This allows you to gain a wide range of experience and grow a multitude of skill sets.

  • Within the core team there are lead engineers as well as the programme manager who will support you, both in terms of work/ work load and your own personal growth and development. Additionally, the relationships built with individuals in other departments allow you to have a wide support network.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The company culture has massively improved over the years, with emphasis on mental wellbeing, balancing the work-life balance and comradery within the team. There are constant social events between Undergraduates, Graduates and full-time employees which people can drop in and out of at their wish.

  • The placement is great to see how large projects and the business itself is run. There is large room to grow over the 12-month period and gain a breadth of industry knowledge and skills which boost your career and self develeopment.
