    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Lots of variation from different products/ management roles. Spends time as store management, a direct leader and also completing projects and managing them. A typical day within stores could start at any time past 5am ending any time up till 10pm, you will commonly work 10+ hours minimum ensuring that the store is running smoothly and you are training your staff. However when in office the job becomes more regimented as you undertake projects, you get a lot more control of your own hours however a usual day would be an 8-5 in the office.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Lots, running a store is a huge amount of responsibility especially when these are taking up to £400,000 a week and this especially comes with equal amounts of stress if you are not prepared. During project time if completed correctly these projects can have nation wide implementation giving you a huge sense of responsibility.

  • Please rate how meaningful the work you were doing was
  • 5/5

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Aldi is not for the faint of heart, although the culture is slowly shifting it is still very much a sink or swim environment if you struggle to reach out and ask for help, the level of demand from you is high as they want you to be the best of the best which means that they expect that from you in whatever you do. They do train you well and you will leave with more skills then almost every other placement can offer however if you are not constantly trying to improve yourself at the same time you will fall behind the fast paced enviroment.

  • How would you rate the support and guidance from the wider team?

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • At Aldi everyone is highly competitive, outspoken and has strong egos, however that is what is needed! Everyone at Aldi takes great pride in their work and is very invested in seeing both their areas and the wider business succeed. The culture is very fast-paced and very open with admissions that if you do not meet the standard they request, that the position just isn't for you, In my region everyone got along lots was very friendly and always happy to help.

  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to Aldi
  • Ensure that you are always trying to better yourself no matter what, through reading, training and self reflection. Always say yes to any opportunity whether that is sending you hours away from home for a month or even just taking on a completely new role and most of all trust and train your team as that is what will make or break your experience.
