Overview
On a day-to-day I was responsible for auditing different parts of a company’s financial statements with the support of the seniors and managers on the team. I was also involved in completing stock-takes and worked on-site at the client’s place of work for a lot of audits.
Skills
The skills I have further developed would be organisation and time management. These skills are all the more important as you are taking your first 6 ACA certificate exams alongside working your day-to-day job. I have also become a lot more proficient in excel, a system I use every day to conduct the audit testing.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility during my placement. At the start, they ease you into the work and once you get increasingly comfortable and start to work more independently, they give you access to new areas to work on. I was constantly learning new things and being positively challenged.
Support & Guidance
The firm provided a lot of support both at the start of my placement and throughout. I was assigned a buddy who I could reach out to for anything I was uncertain about, my line manager arranged regular meetings for us to catch up and for me to voice any concerns or queries I had. I also had support from the seniors and managers on the audit I was working on.
Culture
Forvis Mazars is a great company to work for, there are regular socials which was nice for getting to know other people from the firm in an informal setting. The firm also puts a lot of focus on individual’s own professional development, there are a multitude of training courses and online classes made available for us to access.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed my placement a lot. At the beginning it’s easy to feel overwhelmed but the support offered by colleagues made the transition from university to working life all the more easier. I was given ample study leave time to focus on the exams I was taking and there was always someone available for support should I need it. I enjoyed working with my colleagues it wasn’t too series, there’s a nice and relaxed culture.
Yes
Be yourself and get stuck in! There’s plenty of opportunities for everyone and it’s an amazing firm to work for.
