    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supporting the Product Regulatory Compliance, Compliance Insights team on regulatory landscaping for our products in all markets. My day-to-day basis involves: working with team members in order to gain more knowledge on our products and understanding the regulatory requirements for factors such as flavouring, emissions, packaging etc. Working on my individual project as well as gaining experience through assisting other team members on their projects.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Improved my confidence and presenting skills. I have had multiple opportunities to continuously improve how I structure my presentations and how to differentiate my presenting to different audiences, such as stakeholders, SLT and my team. Organisational skills have been improved as I have learnt to maintain keeping my work organised which has helped me stay on top of everything, and also assisted on improving my punctuality skills. My communication skills have improved as not only do I apply my legal knowledge to my tasks, but also being able to share information to my department and the wider business.

At the beginning of the placement, as interns, we are assigned with a line manager, a buddy (someone in my department), a placement team mentor and a mentor within the company to help achieve my end of placement goals. Everyone is very supportive and we have multiple people that we can comfortably go to for guidance.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I've really enjoyed my placement! I wanted to do a placement where I can apply and develop my legal knowledge but not be in a typical law firm. I have had the opportunity to meet amazing people which have given great advice, both personally and professionally, which has made me happy that I chose BAT for my internship.

  • 7. Would you recommend BAT to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 8. What advice would you give to others applying to BAT
  • For my specific role, you don't need to have legal knowledge and experience, although it is beneficial. My role requires critical thinking so having attention to detail and problem solving skills is great! If you do get the role, be ambitious throughout the placement, network with as many people as you can and try to make the most of the year, it goes by super quick!
