Overview
My Role was to compare offers that were in the market from all close competitors and give my manager an idea of where we are positioned within the Market (If our offers were competitive enough ect.). I would have monthly reports that would be completed at the start of each month and throughout the year created plenty of additional reports that would be ran daily or weekly. You also deal with the financial side, pricing up campaigns and proposals to the Brand controller for approval.
Skills
I have definitely improved my digital skills as coming into this job I had 0 Excel or Office work experience. My interpersonal skills have improved through working with different areas of the business and organising meetings with people I wouldnt normally cross paths with. I developed my presentation skills as there were plenty of occasions where I would be presenting to larger groups then I would have been before. Teamworking was a key part of the placement especially through tasks like our Undergraduate Project
Responsibilities
Yes, there was a strong level of ownership for my task and responsibilities. A lot of freedom and trust when given specific tasks that would be presented/sent to all levels of the business.
Support & Guidance
Very little from my university, only 2 calls throughout the whole year and they only spoke to my manager once for 15 minutes. Within the placement a there was a lot of support, was always someone to ask for help to if needed.
Culture
Vey friendly, they push their cultural statements and ensure your daily tasks and project align with how they want to act. The atmosphere in the office was great, plenty of social opportunities within the business which helps build the connection within your team/Brand
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my Placement year. I wasnt too set on doing a placement before I started but stuck with it anyway and I am very glad I did. The experience I have gained in the last year has been so important and I feel will be very beneficial for my final year and career afterwards
Yes
Make sure you make the most of the opportunities that you get offered. Put yourself forward for all that you can so you make the most of your year. Use the connections that VWG have.
